Season Ends in Heartbreak at Home for the Paisley Pirates

Updated: Apr 14

The 2024/25 season came to a devastating close for the Paisley Pirates on Sunday evening at Braehead Arena, as the team narrowly lost out 4-3 to the Aberdeen Lynx in a do-or-die Play-Off group match. Despite a spirited, determined performance in front of a home crowd, the result means the Pirates will not progress to the Semi Finals—bringing their campaign to a painful end.

This was more than just another fixture. With both sides knowing that a win would secure their spot in the next round, the energy inside Braehead Arena was electric. The Pirates faithful turned out in force, creating a passionate and roaring atmosphere that carried through every shift, every save, and every shot.

The team responded with intensity and urgency. Olly King, Jay Herd, and Chris Wilson all found the back of the net, giving the Pirates hope and momentum during crucial moments of the game. For long spells, they looked the more threatening team—pressuring the Lynx defence, creating quality chances, and playing with the fire of a squad that knew exactly what was at stake.

But as the night wore on, it was the visitors who made the most of key opportunities. The Lynx capitalised on a handful of key moments, edging ahead and managing the clock expertly as the Pirates threw everything forward in the final period. Despite a frantic push late in the third and several near misses, the equaliser never came.

It was a heartbreaker—one of those games where the effort couldn’t be faulted, but the bounce just didn’t fall in our favour.

Chris Turley was named Man of the Match, a deserved recognition for a player who gave absolutely everything. His performance was tireless, physical, and emotionally charged—setting the tone for a team that never stopped battling from the first face-off to the final whistle.

This defeat brings the curtain down on a season filled with resilience, growth, and renewed identity. While we didn’t progress, the Pirates can hold their heads high. The improvement over the course of the season under Ian and Rab’s leadership has been clear for all to see—from tactical discipline to individual development. The team has grown stronger, faster, and more united.

To the Aberdeen Lynx, congratulations on securing a place in the Play-Off Semi Final. Our encounters are always fiercely contested and built on mutual respect—Sunday was no different.

To our fans—thank you. The noise, the flags, the energy from the stands on Sunday (and every week) has been phenomenal. Whether you were at Braehead Arena, followed us across the country, or supported from afar, your backing means the world to this team.

We will follow up soon with a more reflective season wrap-up. But for now, we leave the ice with pride, gratitude, and a hunger to return even stronger next season.

Until then—thank you for everything. We are, and always will be, Paisley Pirates.
