Pirates’ Season Ends at Playoff Semi-Final Stage

Updated: Apr 24

The Paisley Pirates’ 2025/26 campaign came to an end at the Playoff Semi-Final stage following a 4-2 defeat to the Edinburgh Capitals.

It was a tough end to the season for the Pirates, who battled hard throughout but were ultimately unable to find a way back against a strong Capitals side.

Goals from Ryan Parkin and Bari McKenzie kept Paisley in the contest, with the team continuing to push right to the final buzzer.

Despite the result, there was no shortage of effort from the Pirates, who showed determination and character against tough opposition on one of the biggest stages of the season.

Daniel McGowan was named the Pirates’ Man of the Match after another impressive performance in net.

McGowan made a number of important saves during the game and did all he could to keep the Pirates within touching distance.

Reflecting on the result and the wider season, Head Coach Ian Turley spoke about the bigger picture and what the group has built together.

“It’s a sore one to take, but it shouldn’t take away from what this group has achieved over the season. We’ve put together a team that can compete with anyone, and we’ve shown that consistently, especially in the second half of the year.

“The run we’ve been on since January, and our form at Braehead, says a lot about the standards the players have set for themselves.

“What’s stood out most is the collective effort. Everyone has played their part, whether that’s big minutes or supporting roles, and that togetherness has been a huge strength for us.

“We’re proud to be a family-run club, and everything we do is built around the players. The commitment and attitude from the group this season has been first class, and it’s something both myself and Rab really value.”

While the disappointment of defeat will naturally sting, reaching the Playoff Semi-Finals marks the end of a season that has shown real commitment, resilience and progress from the group.

The Pirates have continued to compete hard throughout the campaign and can reflect on their efforts with pride.

The club would also like to place on record its thanks to everyone who came along to support the team. The backing from the Pirates support throughout the season, and especially at the Playoff Finals weekend, has been hugely appreciated by everyone involved.

As one chapter closes, attention will soon turn towards the future and preparations for next season.

Finally, the Paisley Pirates would like to congratulate the Dundee Rockets on their 7-4 win over Edinburgh in the Playoff Final to become Playoff Champions.
