Pirates Take Positives From Pre-Season Opener in Kirkcaldy

Kirkcaldy Kestrels 4–0 Paisley Pirates

Paisley Pirates got their 2026/27 preparations underway on Sunday evening with a 4–0 pre-season defeat to Kirkcaldy Kestrels at Fife Ice Arena.

While the scoreline was not the one the Pirates would have wanted from their first outing of the new campaign, the game gave the coaching team exactly what pre-season is designed for — an opportunity to get the full squad on the ice, test different combinations and begin building towards the competitive season.

Every available player was given valuable minutes throughout the evening, including members of the Pirates’ Under-19 setup, while both goaltenders shared the game and played half each.

With several new faces joining the squad this summer, the fixture also gave the team an important first chance to play together in a match environment and begin developing chemistry across the lines.

There is plenty for the Pirates to take away from the game, both positive and otherwise, with the coaching staff now having the opportunity to review the performance and work on the areas that need tightened up before competitive action begins.

Wylie Impresses on Pirates Debut

One of the biggest positives from the evening was the performance of new signing Mylo Wylie, who was named the Pirates’ Man of the Match.

The young forward impressed in his first appearance wearing a Paisley jersey and gave supporters an early glimpse of what he can bring to the team during the club’s 80th anniversary season.

Wylie joins the Pirates after an eye-catching campaign with Kilmarnock Thunder and wasted little time making an impression with his new club.

A well-deserved Man of the Match award and a very encouraging first outing in Pirates colours.

Pre-season or not, having the Pirates support in the stands is always appreciated, and the team now turns its attention back to training as preparations continue for the start of the competitive campaign.

Coming Up

The Pirates now face a run of three away fixtures as the 2026/27 season gets properly underway.

First up is a trip to Dumfries Ice Bowl on Sunday 6 September, where Paisley will face Solway Sharks with a 5:15pm face-off.

The following weekend, the Pirates return to Fife to face Kirkcaldy Kestrels once again — this time in competitive action — on Sunday 13 September at 6:30pm at Kirkcaldy Ice Arena.

Paisley then round off September with another away fixture against North Ayrshire Wild on Saturday 26 September, with a 6:30pm face-off at Auchenharvie Leisure Centre.
