The Paisley Pirates hit the road on Sunday, 28th September, travelling to Hillheads Ice Rink to face the Whitley Warriors in their latest league clash.
It was always set to be a tough test against one of the league’s most clinical sides, and despite periods of solid play and relentless effort, the Pirates couldn’t match Whitley’s execution in front of goal. The game finished 7–2 to the Warriors, a scoreline that didn’t fully reflect the commitment and determination shown by the Paisley side throughout the 60 minutes.
The Pirates fought hard, creating chances and showing grit across every line, but Whitley capitalised when it mattered most. Still, the coaching team stressed the positives: every challenge presents lessons, and this game will serve as another step in developing consistency and sharpness.
One of the evening’s standouts was goaltender Callum Donaghy, making his first appearance of the season after being sidelined for several months. Despite limited preparation time, Donaghy stood tall between the pipes, pulling off some spectacular saves that kept the scoreline from stretching further. His resilience and determination earned him the Man of the Match award, a fitting recognition of both his performance and his return to competitive action.
“We’re proud of the way the boys kept battling,” said Coach Ian Turley. “The scoreline is a tough one to take, but it’s early in the season and these games help us learn and build. We’ll regroup and come back stronger.”
The club also paid tribute to the travelling supporters who once again showed their colours and passion on the road. “It means everything to see Pirates fans in the stands, no matter where we go,” added Turley.
The Pirates now shift focus to their next fixture, eager to bounce back and keep pushing forward in what promises to be a competitive campaign.
