The Paisley Pirates continued their rich vein of form this weekend, skating to a deserved 5–2 victory over North Ayrshire Wild in front of an energetic home crowd at Braehead Arena. The win not only adds another two valuable league points but also reinforces the Pirates' growing reputation for resilience, teamwork, and attacking flair.
From the drop of the puck, there was no mistaking the intensity of the rivalry between these two West of Scotland sides. North Ayrshire came into the game hungry to disrupt Paisley's rhythm, but it was the Pirates who quickly seized control of the ice. It was Marcus Murdoch who opened the scoring after a well-worked play through the neutral zone, showcasing the kind of slick passing and quick transition hockey that has become a hallmark of this year's team.
Craig Peacock doubled the lead with a composed finish that left the Wild netminder with no chance, and the crowd barely had time to get themselves settled. The experience and calmness of Peacock continue to be a big influence both on and off the ice, and his contribution was a key factor in keeping the Pirates' tempo high.
North Ayrshire replied with a goal of their own midway through the second, capitalising on a rare defensive lapse, however the Pirates didn’t let their heads go down. Rather, they buckled down and began to dictate terms once more. Ryan Campbell added his name to the scoresheet after showing fantastic composure in front of goal, while Chris Wilson, who seems to have a knack for being in the right place at the right time, found the net to restore a comfortable cushion.
Right on cue, Ryan Parkin iced the result with a clinical finish to confirm the Pirates' fifth of the night and sent the home fans into full voice. Chants, drums, and flags filled the Braehead stands as the Pirates skated off with another well-earned win.
It wasn't just the scorers who shone either, as the night's Man of the Match Bradley Annan delivered a standout performance that epitomized the team's fighting spirit. Relentless in every shift, Annan battled in the corners, broke up Wild's rushes, and pushed the play forward with real intent. His all-round effort drew praise from both the coaching staff and the fans. The final whistle sounded, and the Pirates’ bench showed a sense of satisfaction, not just at the scoreline but at how the result was earned. Structure, hard work, and a clear sense of unity on the ice were there in abundance.
“That was one of those games where everyone bought in,” Head Coach, Ian Turley said post-game. “The effort from every line was brilliant. Bradley fully deserved Man of the Match — he worked non-stop and led by example. The lads are starting to gel, and that’s great to see.”
The Pirates’ support once again proved invaluable. The crowd’s energy lifted the team throughout the night, and players were quick to acknowledge the travelling fans from across Renfrewshire and Ayrshire who made the journey to cheer each team on.
As the Pirates look ahead to next weekend, attention now turns to an away clash against the Dundee Rockets, a fixture that promises to test their stamina and structure on the road. Preparations are already underway, and with confidence high, the team will be keen to keep their winning momentum rolling.
