The Paisley Pirates delivered a powerhouse weekend of hockey, sweeping their double-header against Kilmarnock with a combined 25 goals and securing a vital four league points. Across both nights, the team’s depth, work rate, and focus were on full display — a strong statement as the season momentum continues to build.
Saturday Night: Pirates 18 – 1 Kilmarnock
Saturday’s fixture at Braehead was nothing short of dominant. The Pirates came out flying and never eased off, racking up an 18–1 win built on tight structure, relentless pressure, and contributions from every corner of the bench.
The players dug in for each other shift after shift, showing a level of sharpness and hunger that the fans in attendance immediately picked up on. The atmosphere inside the arena grew louder with every goal, every blocked shot, every takeaway.
Ryan Parkin claimed Man of the Match with a superb all-round performance — strong on the puck, clinical in front of goal, and a constant problem for the Kilmarnock defence.
Thank you to everyone who came out to support the team on Saturday. Safe journey home, and we appreciate every single voice behind the glass.
Sunday Night: Pirates 7 – 1 Kilmarnock Thunder
On Sunday, the Pirates returned to Braehead to finish the job — and they did exactly that, earning a convincing 7–1 victory.
Scoring Summary
The goals were spread right across the lineup, with strikes from Bradley Annan, a sharp double from Garry Simpson, and further goals courtesy of Aiden Wilson, Olly King, Ryan Parkin, and Marcus Murdoch, rounding off a well-balanced and relentless offensive performance.
It was another night where everyone contributed. Forechecking pressure was high, defensive responsibility was solid, and puck movement was clean. Both netminders once again played half a game each, keeping the squad fresh across the busy schedule. In true big-man fashion, Callum even picked up an assist — not too shabby for a goalie.
Man of the Match: Garry Simpson
Returning to home ice in a Pirates jersey, Garry Simpson marked the occasion with two goals and a standout performance, earning Sunday’s Man of the Match. A proper return.
Credit Where It’s Due
Despite the scoreline, Kilmarnock Thunder’s netminder Matthew Reid produced an excellent shift, facing 55 shots and making several highlight-reel saves. A deserved Man of the Match for him.
Thanks once again to Kilmarnock for hosting Saturday’s game and travelling through for the Sunday fixture.
Post-Game Reaction: Turley’s Take
After Sunday’s win, Head Coach Ian Turley sat down with Pirates TV to share his thoughts on the weekend — and he was pleased with what he saw.
Turley opened by praising the opposition for showing character after Saturday’s high-scoring result:
“Yeah, happy with the result, Stuart. I think credit to Kilmarnock… after last night and coming out and giving us a bit of a game, which was good. They could have lay down.”
He highlighted how the weekend allowed the team to work on key areas ahead of next week’s match-ups:
“A high-scoring game last night allowed us to work on some things tonight and take it into next week. So overall, happy with the result.”
Turley addressed the noticeable line-shuffling and positional changes throughout the game, noting that the Pirates are still building chemistry following several recent additions:
“It’s important. We’re not quite set. We’ve had a few additions over the last couple of weeks… it’s okay adding the pieces, but if we’ve not been playing together, we don’t have that chemistry.”
He also praised the squad’s depth and highlighted the internal competition for spots each week:
“We’re in a fortunate position where we have a big squad… there’ll be people not playing certain weeks. An example of that tonight is our captain saying he’d happily sit out to give a younger guy an opportunity — great credit to Chris for doing that.”
And for fans wondering whether certain line combinations — including the Peacock–McKenzie pairing — are here to stay, Turley made it clear that nothing is final yet:
“Nothing you’ve seen tonight is set in stone. We’re still trying some things, and with guys not in the lineup tonight as well, there’ll be further changes.”
Looking Ahead: Warriors Weekend Incoming
The Pirates now shift their attention to another back-to-back challenge as they face the Whitley Warriors twice next weekend:
Saturday – HOME at Braehead
Sunday – AWAY
With confidence high and the squad continuing to gel, it’s shaping up to be another huge weekend of hockey for the Black & Red.
